a) Write a paragraph on “The Problems of Drug Abuse Among Youth and Its Solutions.” [5]
5Answer
Drug abuse among youth has become one of the most pressing social issues in Nepal and around the world. The problem stems from various factors, including peer pressure, lack of proper guidance, economic hardships, and easy accessibility to drugs. Many young people fall into the trap of drug addiction due to curiosity, stress from academic pressure, or the desire to escape from family problems. The consequences of drug abuse are devastating: it leads to poor academic performance, health deterioration, mental disorders, and even criminal behavior. Families suffer emotionally and financially, and society at large bears the burden of increased crime rates, unemployment, and social instability. The youth, who should be the future pillars of the nation, are instead becoming a liability due to this harmful habit.
To combat drug abuse among youth, a multi-faceted approach is necessary. Education and awareness play a crucial role. Schools and colleges should introduce comprehensive programs on the dangers of drugs, their physical and mental effects, and the legal consequences of drug abuse. Workshops, seminars, and counseling sessions can help students make informed decisions. Parental involvement is equally important. Parents must communicate openly with their children, understand their problems, and provide a supportive environment. They should also monitor their children’s activities and friends to prevent exposure to drugs.
Government and community initiatives are vital in addressing this issue. Strict enforcement of anti-drug laws, regular drug raids, and rehabilitation centers for addicts can deter youth from experimenting with drugs. NGOs and community leaders can organize awareness campaigns, sports activities, and skill development programs to keep youth engaged in productive pursuits. Peer support groups can also be effective, as young people often listen to their peers more than adults. By fostering a culture of responsibility, discipline, and healthy alternatives, society can help youth resist the temptation of drug abuse and build a brighter future.
