Answer
a. **Why don't you carry a blanket? You have got a lot of space in your bag.** → **You might as well carry a blanket.** *Explanation:* The suggestion is given because there is extra space available, making it a logical choice to carry the blanket without extra effort.
b. **Why don't you carry a blanket? You might feel cold.** → **You might as well carry a blanket.** *Explanation:* The suggestion is made because carrying a blanket is a simple precaution against potential cold, so it is reasonable to do so.
c. **Let's not argue about it. That won't solve the problem.** → **There is no point in arguing about it.** *Explanation:* Arguing is unnecessary because it will not resolve the issue, so the suggestion discourages it.
d. **Don't take your children to the pond. They might fall.** → **Your children ought not to go to the pond.** *Explanation:* The warning emphasizes that taking children to the pond is dangerous, so they should avoid it.
e. **Why don't you watch the match at home? They are going to televise it live.** → **You might as well watch the match at home.** *Explanation:* Watching the match at home is convenient since it will be broadcast live, making it a sensible choice.
