a) Causes of Unemployment

Unemployment is a major economic problem in Nepal, caused by several structural and cyclical factors. The primary cause is the rapid growth of the population, which increases the labor supply faster than the economy can create jobs. Secondly, the lack of industrialization and modern technology in rural areas limits job opportunities, forcing many to rely on subsistence agriculture. Thirdly, the mismatch between the skills of the educated youth and the requirements of the job market leads to educated unemployment. Furthermore, the high cost of capital and lack of investment in the private sector hinder the establishment of new industries. Finally, political instability and policy inconsistencies often discourage foreign and domestic investors, further reducing job creation.
