Explanation of Journal Entries:

  1. Forfeiture of Shares:

    • When 200 shares of Rs.100 each were forfeited for non-payment of the final call of Rs.40 per share, the Share Forfeiture Account was debited with Rs.8,000 (200 × Rs.40), and the Calls in Arrears Account was credited with the same amount.
  2. Transfer to Capital Reserve (First Entry):

    • Out of the Rs.8,000 forfeited amount, Rs.2,000 (200 shares × Rs.10 per share, as the unpaid call was Rs.40 per share) was transferred to the Capital Reserve Account to maintain the company’s capital structure.
  3. Re-issue of Shares:

    • When 100 shares were re-issued at Rs.80 per share, the Bank Account was debited with Rs.8,000 (100 × Rs.80), and the Share Forfeiture Account was credited with the same amount.
  4. Transfer to Capital Reserve (Second Entry):

    • Again, Rs.2,000 (100 shares × Rs.20 per share, as Rs.40 was the unpaid call per share) was transferred to the Capital Reserve Account from the Share Forfeiture Account.
  5. Transfer to Share Capital:

    • The remaining Rs.6,000 (100 shares × Rs.60 per share, as Rs.100 is the face value of each share) was transferred to the Share Capital Account to restore the company’s authorized capital.

Final Position:

  • Share Forfeiture Account is closed with a zero balance.
  • Capital Reserve Account shows a total credit balance of Rs.4,000 (Rs.2,000 from the first transfer + Rs.2,000 from the second transfer).
  • Share Capital Account reflects the re-issued shares, increasing the total share capital to Rs.26,000 (original Rs.20,000 + Rs.6,000 from re-issued shares).
