a) Write a paragraph on “The Role of Government in Providing Basic Facilities to the People.” [5]

The government plays a pivotal role in ensuring the well-being and development of its citizens by providing essential basic facilities. These facilities are fundamental to human survival, growth, and overall societal progress. One of the primary responsibilities of the government is to ensure access to clean water and sanitation. Safe drinking water and proper sanitation are critical for preventing diseases and maintaining public health. Governments invest in infrastructure such as water treatment plants, pipelines, and sewage systems to deliver these services efficiently.

Another crucial role of the government is to provide reliable electricity. Electricity powers homes, schools, hospitals, and industries, driving economic growth and improving quality of life. Governments establish power plants, transmission lines, and distribution networks to ensure a steady supply of electricity to all regions, including remote areas. Additionally, the government must ensure access to affordable and nutritious food. Food security programs, such as public distribution systems, subsidies on essential commodities, and support for agriculture, help reduce hunger and malnutrition. By regulating food prices and supporting farmers, the government safeguards the food supply chain.

Healthcare is another indispensable service that the government must provide. Hospitals, clinics, and medical facilities should be accessible to all citizens, regardless of their socioeconomic status. Governments implement health insurance schemes, vaccination programs, and disease prevention initiatives to promote public health. Education is equally vital, and the government’s responsibility extends to building schools, colleges, and universities while ensuring quality education for every child. Scholarships, teacher training, and curriculum development are essential components of this effort.

Furthermore, the government must maintain law and order to create a safe environment for citizens. Police forces, legal systems, and emergency services are necessary to protect lives and property. Transportation infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and public transport systems, enhances connectivity and mobility, fostering economic activities. Lastly, the government should promote environmental sustainability by implementing policies to reduce pollution, conserve natural resources, and mitigate climate change.

In conclusion, the government’s role in providing basic facilities is indispensable for the holistic development of society. By investing in infrastructure, healthcare, education, food security, and environmental sustainability, the government ensures a better quality of life for all citizens, fostering a prosperous and equitable nation.
