Analyze the following case carefully and answer the questions that follow:
Bhimsen Thapa was born as the son of Major Amar Singh Thapa in 1775 in Gorkha district, Nepal, rose from a distinguished family to become a crucial figure in Nepalese history. He served as Mukhtiyar (Prime Minister) from 1806 to 1837 A.D.
Bhimsen Thapa's ascent in the political arena was propelled by his keen intelligence, diplomatic skills, and charismatic leadership. He navigated the complex dynamics of the Nepalese court, earning the favor of King Rana Bahadur Shah, which eventually led to his appointment as Mukhtiyar. Bhimsen Thapa's era was defined by the expanding influence of the British East India Company. Faced with the threat of colonization, Thapa employed skillful diplomacy to maintain Nepal's sovereignty. His strategic acumen ensured Nepal stayed independent while balancing relations with regional powers.
To modernize Nepal, Bhimsen Thapa introduced significant administrative reforms aimed at streamlining governance and decision-making. His economic policies stimulated trade and bolstered the nation's economy, laying a strong foundation for future development. The Nepalese army was modernized in European style. He arranged facilities for guns and other explosives for the army. He also gave the army of Nepal more salary and training. His views was the stronger the army of a country, the stronger will be the country.
Despite his contributions, Bhimsen Thapa's tenure ended in controversy. His centralization of power and suppression of dissent led to political conspiracies against him. In 1837, Bhimsen Thapa was removed from office and placed under house arrest, where he remained until his death in 1839. His complex legacy includes both his strategic achievements and the controversies that marked the end of his career.
